Fighting Fit this Friday! Lyndsey’s Sparring Her Way Into Summer

With only three weeks to go before the big fight, training is stepping up in the Irish Fight Night training camp! For those IMG_0189of you that might have missed our last blog, one of our own Lyndsey is boxing in the upcoming Irish Fight Night on the 16th of December, taking part to help raise money for the Irish Support Agency.

“I’m still confident, I have three weeks to go!” said Lyndsey when I asked her how training was going. With next to no boxing experience before she started training for the event Lyndsey has came a long way, but there’s still a long road ahead! We’re keeping track of her progress and bringing it to you guys! So last time we chatted to Lyndsey she was learning techniques such as different punches and footwork. With only a few weeks before the big fight it’s now time to spar with her potential opponents!

Lyndsey: “Everyone goes for it, no-one really holds back! The girls are all giving 120% in the ring when they’re sparring!”.

Lyndsey is part of an intense training course leading up to the big fight night, which right now is concentrating on getting her ready by actual sparring between the competitors. Right now she is learning how to “dodge the digs” and working on “rolling” to avoid those nasty knocks (she’s already had a couple to the head and isn’t keen on anymore!).

Lyndsey: “For the next three weeks I need to learn to use my range more, and keep my hands up!”. Yes Lyndsey, no good protecting your body you need to protect your head and face! Despite taking a few blows in the last week Lyndsey is still confident “with enough practice and training I should be able to win this fight!”.

It hasn’t been easy going; for almost two months now Lyndsey has dedicated herself to her training, heading straight to the gym after work and learning as much as she can before the big night. It’s tough going, especially given that the silly season is in full swing and she’s avoiding alcohol as it affects her training!

Lyndsey is putting herself through this for a good cause though, the Irish Support Agency were established in 1995 to provide support to the Irish community living in Australia in times of crisis. The event is now sold out but if you would like to show your support you can donate here.

Lyndsey will find out in the next week or two who she will be up against on the 16th, which will give her chance to study her opponent and develop her fighting style to make sure she is the winner come fight night!  We will bring you updates each week until the big fight so watch this space!
