Sydney Booming with Infrastructure Projects

Sydney is growing at an alarming rate, and this is great news for the labour hire industry as well as job seekers. The infrastructure boom is well and truly underway, with more than $16 billion per year to be invested in major transport infrastructure projects over the next three years. By 2020, spending will more than double as around $36-$37 billion is allocated to various other transport infrastructure construction.
Transport isn’t the only area to benefit, as hospitals and schools are also being built to accommodate the growing population. In the inner city alone, there is currently about $4.8 billion worth of work underway, and a further $3.1 billion worth of work has been approved.
With a strong economy and a record number of construction jobs on offer to Sydney siders, now is the time to get involved. In this post we will highlight some of the major infrastructure projects and roles available to suitable applicants.

Sydney’s Building Boom
As of September 2017, investment in Sydney’s building boom had reached a staggering $62 billion. Whilst much of this investment has been in transport infrastructure, there are also plenty of commercial and residential projects underway. A record number of construction jobs will be offered over the next 4 years, with a peak expected in 2020.
Construction of roads, bridges, tunnels, hospitals and schools across Sydney have all contributed to this huge demand for construction workers. These projects take many years to complete, and there is a constant flow of new projects being added to the pipeline. This means there has never been a better time to find long term work in the construction industry.

Major Projects
Many site purchases have occurred around the inner city, and Brix Projects are proud to supply skilled labourers for a range of major projects, including:

  • Barangaroo – A new inner-city suburb that is constantly evolving. Residents, visitors and tourists will enjoy access to world class restaurants, entertainment and green space with stunning harbour views.
  • Crown Casino – Crown Casino will be located within Crown Sydney, and it will be the second legal casino in Sydney. Crown Sydney will be the first 6-star luxury hotel in Sydney, and it is likely to be a building of global significance.
  • Sydney Light Rail – This project will connect the Sydney CBD to the South East via a 12km light rail route.
  • NorthConnex – Linking the M1 and M2 motorways, this project involves the construction of a 9-kilometre motorway tunnel. This will be the longest road tunnel project in Australia, and upon completion it will significantly reduce congestion along Pennant Hills Road. It is expected to generate about 8,700 jobs.
  • WestConnex – This is the largest transport infrastructure project in Australia, and it involves the construction of a 33-kilometre underground motorway. This is a much needed addition to Sydney, and it will help to ease congestion on our roads. This project is expected to create about 10,000 jobs by the time it is completed in 2023.
  • Badgerys Creek Airport – Sydney has long needed a new airport, and the construction process has just kicked off in February 2018. The new airport is expected to open in 2026. This project is ideally located for people living in Western Sydney, and by 2031 it is expected to create about 28,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Parramatta urban growth project – The NSW Government has pledged $310 million towards the renewal of Parramatta North. Parramatta is a major growth area, and this project is expected to create new homes, green space and jobs to support the growing population. Some of the jobs include heritage restoration, rehabilitation of river foreshore areas and construction of new amenities such as cycleways as well as roads and playgrounds.
