Brix Projects are proud to support this years R U OK? Day, to encourage everyone to check in with family, friends and workmates and to support anyone who may be struggling with certain aspects of life.
Although it will take more than one day a year to eliminate depression or anxiety in society, R U OK is definitely a step in the right direction
“In a 12-month period, it is estimated that 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt, with an average of 2,320 people committing suicide every year. In fact, around 45 per cent of Australians will experience mental illness in their lifetime, while 20 per cent are affected every year” (source wikipedia)
National research shows that 24% of us have stopped talking with four to eight loved ones, and a further 10% with nine or more people.
R U OK Campaign Director Rebecca Lewis said that today’s the day to make a promise to change that.
“As a community and as individuals, we’re stronger together and it’s important that we make more time for the people we care about,” Lewis said.
“Use today as an opportunity to start a conversation with someone you were once close to, as well as reach out to anyone you’re worried about. Then, make a commitment to be there for one another throughout the year.”
Brix Projects encourages all office staff and employees on site to join in and start conversations to support those struggling with issues such as loneliness, depression and isolation, and prevent suicidal thoughts.
This year to support this great cause staff will be wearing yellow in the office and will bring in food to share with each other at lunchtime.
